Exploring our changing world through cinema
Welcome to Mither Earth, a new climate film festival celebrating the power of storytelling to help us reflect on the world around us.
Funded by Film Hub Scotland, Creative Scotland, and the Cairngorms National Park Authority. Led by North East Arts Touring in partnership with a network of passionate organisations – Aberdeen for a Fairer World, Ballater CAN, Ballater Film Club, Barn, Glenlivet & Tomintoul Development Trust, NESCAN Hub and Number 30.
This inaugural festival brings iconic films and creative activities to communities across Ballater, Banchory, Glenlivet, and Huntly.
Why a Climate Film Festival?
Climate change affects every part of our lives, from the landscapes we love to the communities we call home. But it’s not just about rising temperatures and extreme weather. It’s about how we live, what we value and the future we want to shape together.
Mither Earth is about creating space for reflection, imagination, and connection. Through film, we invite you to explore climate themes in ways that are engaging, hopeful, and rooted in community.
The Challenges We Face
From biodiversity loss to energy transition, the climate crisis presents complex challenges. But it also opens up opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and change. In rural and coastal communities across the North East of Scotland, people are already taking action—whether through local food projects, renewable energy, or nature restoration.
Mither Earth supports these efforts by sparking conversation and curiosity. It’s not about preaching—it’s about participation.
Why Classic and Mainstream Films?
We’ve chosen iconic and mainstream films, because they speak to climate themes in subtle, powerful ways. These stories are familiar, accessible, and emotionally resonant. They help us explore ideas of justice, resilience, and our relationship with nature without overwhelming facts or fear.
By pairing these films with creative activities, like stargazing, workshops and art sessions, we turn each screening into a shared experience of learning and inspiration.
Join Us
Whether you’re a film lover, a climate activist, or simply curious, Mither Earth offers something for everyone.

About the New Producer Programme
Mither Earth has been made possible through the New Producer Programme by Film Hub Scotland, a scheme designed to support emerging talent in film exhibition. The programme offers funding, mentoring, and creative freedom to help new producers develop bold, inclusive, and community-rooted film projects.
Our New Producer is Archie Kershaw, a graduate of Aberdeen University and originally from Moffat. Archie has brought together a vibrant network of partners and collaborators to shape Mither Earth into a festival that celebrates cinema as a tool for connection, creativity, and climate engagement.
Thanks to this support, Mither Earthis not just a film festival—it’s a shared journey of storytelling, imagination, and local action across the North East of Scotland.
