Birds of Paradise Launch Free Backstage Training Programme for Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent People
Birds of Paradise Theatre Company has announced a new opportunity for Deaf, Disabled and neurodivergent people interested in working behind the scenes in the performing arts.
As part of its Cue Backstage project, the company is recruiting six participants for its BOP Backstage Trainees programme, a free two-year training initiative designed to support people at different stages of their careers to develop skills and experience in backstage and offstage roles.
The programme will offer monthly workshops, hands-on experience working on Birds of Paradise productions, and a range of placements across the wider industry. It is open to anyone aged 18 or over with an interest in backstage work. Applicants may be completely new to the sector, looking to transition into a backstage role, or already working behind the scenes but facing new or evolving barriers.
Birds of Paradise has a strong track record of championing accessibility and inclusion in the arts, and this new programme aims to create more equitable routes into technical and production roles, which are often less visible but essential to the success of live performance.
An online question-and-answer session will take place on 14 May from 7pm to 8pm, offering prospective applicants the chance to find out more about the programme and the recruitment process.
Applications close at 8pm on 27 May.
Full details and application information can be found via the Birds of Paradise website. Those interested in sharing the opportunity are encouraged to help spread the word through their networks and social media channels.
Enquiries about the programme can be directed to the Cue Backstage project coordinator at cuebackstage@boptheatre.co.uk.
