Local Hero

Local Hero follows Mac MacIntyre, a Houston oil executive sent to the tiny Scottish village of Ferness to buy the land for a new oil refinery. As Mac negotiates with the locals—who are quietly eager to sell—he becomes enchanted by the landscape, the community, and their gentle way of life. His boss, Felix Happer, obsessed with astronomy, complicates matters further. When a beach-dwelling hermit refuses to sell the final crucial plot, Mac must confront the conflict between corporate ambition and the value of place, ultimately discovering that Ferness has changed him more than he expected.
