Macbeth: Blood & Bluegrass by The Barden Party is a critically acclaimed musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic play. Set to a score of Americana and bluegrass music, this version of the bard’s tale blends classic literature with a modern twist alongside original arrangements of the music of Mumford and Sons, Dolly Parton and The SteelDrivers, to create an emotional, accessible, toe-tapping theatrical experience.
The work was devised and developed in Wellington, New Zealand and toured around NZ and Australia from November 2024 to March 2025, winning Best Theatre Week 2 at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and receiving multiple five-star reviews along the way. The Barden Party then brought the production to The Edinburgh Fringe in August 2025, where it received five-star reviews from Theatre Weekly, Musical Theatre and The Recs, along with standing ovations from audiences.
