SUMMARY:Arthur Coates & Kerran Cotterell
DESCRIPTION:Arthur Coates & Kerran Cotterell are a two-man trad tornado tearing through the folk world with foot percussion\, fiddle\, guitar\, vocals\, and groove to spare. Kitted out with grooving basslines\, tight harmonies\, and offbeat charm\, they’re just a couple of lads with a tangle of strings – yet they somehow summon the sound and swagger of a much bigger band. Their music blends original compositions with tunes and songs they’ve found in the wild\, delivered with harmonies\, tall tales\, and a streak of serious silliness. Their shows mix clickety clacks\, plucks and strums\, with easy repartee and sharp turns – every piece crafted to keep toes tapping\, faces smiling\, and the whole room leaning in. It’s groove\, grit\, and guaranteed good times. \nMusically\, they straddle tradition and invention\, bridging the folk archive with a fearless modern edge. Some tracks glisten with clean lines and elegant harmonies – crystalline structures that shimmer in the light of\ncontemporary trad. Others veer gleefully off course\, hopping on the blues train for a whistle-stop tour of the Québécois folk line. One moment it’s reels and foot taps\, the next it’s jazz chords\, pop turns\, and grooves that could jump the track and land somewhere between Vulfpeck and Le Vent du Nord. Arthur\, a fiddler raised in Aberdeenshire\, builds rolling\, riff-heavy tunes grounded in his family’s musical traditions and shaped further by studies with Jonny Hardie (Old Blind Dogs). Kerran\, a melodic schemer from Cumbria\, draws on pop and choral training to weave in crisp harmonies and satisfying twists. \nSince first meeting at Sidmouth Folk Week in 2018 (one of them tipsy – you can guess who)\, Arthur and Kerran have grown from pub jam sessions to becoming festival favourites across the UK. As broadcaster Mike Blackburn put it: “One of the very best live acts I’ve ever seen – and I’ve seen a lot!” They’ve earned repeat invitations and enthusiastic followings at events like Sidmouth Folk Week\, the UK’s longest-running folk festival; Purbeck Valley\, known for spotlighting rising talent; and Edinburgh’s Scots Fiddle Festival\, a cornerstone of Scotland’s traditional music scene. Their growing profile has also reached international audiences\, with a 2024 tour of Québec and Ontario and a standout set at Festival Trad Montréal\, one of Québec’s premier traditional music events. In 2025\, they were named winners of the Robinson Emerging Artist Showcase at the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival\, Canada’s leading pan-Celtic celebration. With performances in 2025 at the prestigious Shrewsbury Folk Festival\, as well as FolkEast and Aberdeen’s Tall Ships Races\, they’re quickly becoming one of the most talked-about acts on the circuit. \nAfter charming critics and crowds with their last album Music for Cows (2024)\, Arthur and Kerran have traded pasture for pyrotechnics. Their next release\, Controlled Burn (due February 2026)\, leans hard into original material – with foot-stomping grooves\, driving tunes\, and a few tracks that come in smoking hot. The name? It was inspired by chance encounters\, good times on the road\, and possibly a barbecue on Lake Huron – but that story’s for another time. As Folkworld put it\, their sound is “powerful and dark\, fresh and fun” – and this time around\, they’re striking the match on something bold\, strange\, and entirely their own. UK dates will follow in the spring\, with North American shows lined up for summer 2026. Expect trad turned sideways\, storytelling with soul\, and grooves that smoulder\, spark\, and occasionally catch fire.

SUMMARY:The Sorries
DESCRIPTION:THE SORRIES are Douglas Kay (vocals\, guitar\, bodhran\, mandolin\, flute) and Martin Philip (vocals\, guitar\, bodhran\, tres cubano). The duo sing\, play and banter their way through a show which features a host of traditional tunes from the much-loved Scottish songbook\, as well as some songs gathered from the oral tradition and a few original compositions. \nThe two formed The Sorries in 2006 following a conversation during a tour of the Highlands where both Martin and Douglas were performing as part of separate projects. Coming from very different musical backgrounds\, they discovered a shared love for the music of The Corries. Over a bottle of whisky they decided that the duo is still an ideal format in which to present so many of the wonderful folk songs in which Scotland is so rich. \nThey now have seven albums under their belts – their most recent\, I Will Work receiving airplay on Radio Scotland – and have performed to lively crowds in venues which range from Moscow’s Samhain Festival to Hampden Park\, and from the Brighton Fringe to the Isle of Eigg.  They have performed to sell-out crowds across the last 16 years of the Edinburgh Fringe and in 2026 the lads are delighted to be embarking on a Spring tour in venues throughout Scotland.

See her play all the characters from Brown Owl to the acting agent\, in her own engaging style\, in her first play Tickbox.

SUMMARY:Flotsam & Jetsam
DESCRIPTION:Flotsam floats\, Jetsam sinks  –  Both their worlds are on the brinks\, \nThe jagged arcs of waves and sharks  –  Chase them both in minds and hearts. \nThey must break through their tears and fears  –  And worries of a thousand years\, \nTo find what’s true and out of the blue  –  Discover the other and a friend that’s new. \nFlotsam is soft\, flexible\, laid back. She slides and glides through life on the ice. Jetsam is the opposite\, his insectile body is stiff and nervy\, alert and watchful\, suspicious of all in his forest home. \nAnd then comes the weather… and they are both cast adrift in a world that is strange to them and full of a range of dangers. Finally washed up on the same island beach they must discover the other and work out how they can work together. \nA hopeful\, adventure story about two very different creatures that must learn to work together. Visual theatre with original music and delightful puppetry.

SUMMARY:The Amazing Thing
DESCRIPTION:What’s in the box? A strange and weird thing? Something terrible\, or a thing of beauty? \nStoryteller\, Peter Grimm opens the box to find the ‘Thing’ that takes him on an unusual journey that weaves its way through a medley of well known Brother’s Grimm tales\, to finally unlock his imagination and free his stories. \nA truly original story told with puppets\, acting and live music. \nFun\, inspiration and delight for all the family. \n  \nPeter Grimm is a descendant of the famous Brothers Grimm. He has inherited the tradition of his ancestors and tells their stories as they were written down 200 years ago. \nBut\, with his inheritance also comes a ghost. The brothers locked something away in a box when they wrote down and fixed the stories. They threw the box into the sea\, and now that something\, that rogue and wild element of story\, has returned with the tide. Peter opens the box and sets free the “amazing thing” to add its influence in the sea of stories. \nThe show is about the unlocking of imagination in relation to stories\, hung on some well-known Grimm classics. It can be useful to start somewhere familiar and then take a detour into the unknown. A rogue or surprise element can wake up the imagination and give a new slant to a predictable tale.
