Placemaking Facilitator

North East Arts Touring (NEAT)

Full-time | One-year fixed contract
£31,850 per annum
Based in Banchory, with travel across North East Scotland

Application deadline: Wednesday 3 June 2026, 23:59

About the role

We’re looking for a Placemaking Facilitator to join NEAT and work alongside communities across the North East of Scotland to shape meaningful, inclusive cultural activity.

This role is about people and place. You’ll spend time with volunteer promoters, community groups, audiences and creatives, building confidence, sparking conversation and supporting communities to develop cultural activity that feels relevant, accessible and worthwhile to them.

You won’t be telling communities what they need. Instead, you’ll be listening, asking good questions, creating welcoming spaces for discussion and helping people turn ideas into action, whether that’s a performance, a screening, a creative workshop or a conversation about how their venue could be more sustainable.

If you enjoy working with people, feel comfortable in rural settings, and believe that culture plays a role in everyday community life, this role could be a great fit.

About NEAT

North East Arts Touring (NEAT) is an arts charity bringing live performances, cinema screenings and creative activity to communities across Aberdeenshire, Moray, Angus and Aberdeen City.

We work mainly with rural and underserved communities, supporting a long‑established network of volunteer promoters who programme events in local halls, community venues and non‑traditional spaces. Our work includes live performance, community cinema, creative workshops, festivals and creative learning projects, often delivered in partnership with community organisations and third-sector groups.

At the heart of NEAT is a belief in cultural democracy, that culture should be shaped with communities, not delivered at them. We care about access, inclusion, environmental responsibility and making sure our work is relevant to the people and places we serve.

What you’ll be doing

As Placemaking Facilitator, you will:

  • Support and mentor volunteer promoters to build confidence, skills and connections
  • Facilitate friendly, inclusive conversations about what matters to communities
  • Use simple place‑based tools to explore strengths, challenges and opportunities
  • Support creative workshops linked to touring performances and screenings
  • Help communities think about accessibility and sustainability in their venues
  • Build positive relationships with community venues, groups, artists and partners
  • Capture insights and feedback to help NEAT learn, adapt and plan well
  • Work closely with the Creative Director and team to deliver NEAT’s programme

This is a hands‑on role, with time spent out in communities as well as planning, reflection and collaboration with colleagues.

Who this role is for

You might be a community worker, arts facilitator, producer, organiser or placemaker. You don’t need to have done this exact job before.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of community engagement or facilitation
  • Feels confident working with volunteers and people with different levels of experience
  • Is a strong listener and communicator
  • Is organised, reliable and curious
  • Is comfortable travelling across a large rural area, use of own transport is essential

Experience of rural touring, community cinema, creative workshops, accessibility, sustainability or volunteer‑led activity would be a bonus, but isn’t essential.

What matters most is your ability to work with people respectfully, build trust and support communities to shape cultural activity on their own terms.

Working with us

  • Salary: £31,850 per annum
  • Hours: 35 hours per week, with flexible working and TOIL for evening/weekend work
  • Contract: One‑year fixed term, starting 1 September 2026
  • Location: Based at The Barn, Banchory, with travel across the North East, some home working will be considered.
  • Holiday: 28 days per year, plus pension scheme

This role reports to NEAT’s Creative Director (CEO) and is part of a small, supportive and committed team.
